Day Trips - Ft. Huachuca
Ft. Huachuca is the oldest active U.S. Army base in the country. It is home to much of the Intelligence Service and testing of unmanned aircraft. There are 3 terrific museums on Post . . .nothing boring there! At the turn of the 20th century, it was home to the Buffalo Soldiers, the name given by the Indians to the Afro-American soldiers.
Ft. Huachuca is the base from which General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing (aided by the Buffalo Soldiers) launched his attacks into northern Mexico in search of Poncho Villa. The Ft. Huachuca Museum has an outstanding display of the exploits during that era.
Again, one could easily spend a day on Post. Visitor passes are available at the Main Gate.
