Day Trips - Wilcox and North
Cochise County has 3 major mountain ranges; the Huachucas and Whetstones to the west, the Mules and Dragoons up the middle and the Chiracahuas and Dos Cabezas on the east next to New Mexico.
We are located next to the Huachucas in the San Pedro River Valley. A beautiful drive north through the Sulphur Springs Valley will take one through some splendid open range past the Cochise Stronghold to the Wilcox area and the extensive fruit and vegetable farms.
The other 2 national parks in our county (besides the Coronado Memorial Monument 3 miles to the rear of our property) are the Chiracahua National Park and the Fort Bowie National Monument on the way to Wilcox. If you decide to cross into New Mexico and come back south just east of the Chiracahuas, you will come down through picturesque Granite Canyon and past the monument designating the location where Geronimo surrendered to end the Apache wars.
The Chiricahua Mountains are a mountain range in southeasternmost Arizona, USA and are part of the Coronado National Forest. The highest peak is Chiricahua Peak, which is 9759 feet above sea level. The Chiricahuas were home to the Chiricahua Apaches, including Cochise and Geronimo.
This will take at least a full day, but it will be one you will well remember.
